It was yet another hung-over Saturday morning at the Voda office, and I was trying to keep my eyes open, while groggily surfing CNN’s website and catching up on my American politics. It was a cold, grey morning, but Sublime was on the radio and I was daydreaming about my life back in sunny Southern California when I stumbled onto a web page that asked the question, “Which city are you?”

Here is a video diary of a day I spent in Kaikoura, just a stop along the road on the Flying Kiwi Adventure Bus Tour.

Things have been off to a pretty good start here on this trip, except for the weather. The day I flew in to Auckland, it was sunny, but that evening a storm rolled over the North Island we had nothing but rain and wind for the next few days.

Wai-O-Tapu means “Sacred Waters” in the Maori language, and the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland is a sort of touristic tribute to the natural beauty and supernatural stink of these sulfurous geo-thermal…
